Darren Anderton has backed Heung-Min Son to be a success at White Hart Lane and is in no doubt as to what is his best position.

The South Korean got off to a flying start at Spurs, only for injury to hamper his progress. Someone who knows all about having to recover from injury is Anderton, who could have played far more than his 364 games for the club were it not for fitness issues.

Speaking to ESPNFC, Anderton said: “Spurs should definitely keep him, as he will get better.

“He started really well and his energy helped the team. I’ve also heard that he has become a real favourite in the dressing room and is a great guy to have around.

“His best position is probably just behind a front man, like a free role.

“Sometimes his final ball in the final third of the pitch could be better but that will come with age.”

Son has most often played on the flanks during his first season at the club, but with a Champions League campaign likely next season there could be opportunities for him to shine in a central role. Anderton himself moved infield having started his career on the wing and it will be interesting to see if he will be proved right.
