Reports claim that Victor Wanyama will leave Southampton this summer, with Spurs and Arsenal ready to fight it out for their mutual long-term target.

Yet though the Gunners have long been linked with a move for the Kenyan, it looks like they have already added another midfielder to their squad. Leaked photos have emerged online of Granit Xhaka posing in full Arsenal kit, ahead of a £25m transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach.

If Xhaka does move to Arsenal as expected, it raised the question as to whether they will be in the market for another midfielder. They already have Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere as options in central midfield and the purchase of Xhaka would leave them well-covered in that position.

That could clear the way for Tottenham to move for Wanyama, who played for Southampton under Mauricio Pochettino. With only a year remaining on his contract, the 24-year old should be more affordable than he was last summer and would provide real competition for Eric Dier.

So should Spurs bring Wanyama to White Hart Lane? Give us your thoughts in the comments section below.

  1. At the end of the day pochetino has worked with him before. The trust and responsibilities he has put on our youngsters was bang on the nose. If he wants him, get him. Its time people realised we need to put our trust in pochetino. Long may he reign without interference from levi.

  2. I would still get Defoe back, cheap proven option, would crawl back. Wanyama good , but we need more creativity to break down the WBAs etc
