Reports from Italy claim that Spurs are interested in the Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.

Tottenham are said to be in talks with Icardi’s agent and mulling over a possible £38m move for the Argentinian international.

Icardi joined Inter from Sampdoria in 2013 and has scored 52 goals in 102 games for the Serie A giants, attracting interest across Europe in 2014-15 when he scored 27 times in 48 appearances.

Last season saw Icardi’s standards slip a little, but his final tally of 16 goals in 30 games is still very respectable. Arsenal are also said to be interested in the 23-year old.

While Spurs would surely like to add Icardi to the ranks, the size of the fee makes us question the plausibility of a deal. It could well be a ruse by the club to put pressure on AZ Alkmaar to accept an offer for their striker Vincent Janssen, who looks to be more realistically priced.

  1. I can’t believe people are falling for it, it was probably leaked by Levy so AZ accept their offer for Janssen. Levy wouldn’t pay that for Messi. 🙂

  2. I don’t believe Levy would bid that type of money for Icardi just to bate AZ. Otherwise AZ would then start to think Daniel Levy may come back with an improved offer for Jansen if we don’t get Icardi. It would be a dangerous move. …

  3. Walmane+1! Also Icardi, though he would be a good addition in a footballing sense, the furore that follows that chap is not a factor I can see Poch wanting in the dressing room. Look at the issues he caused at Samp with one of his ‘friend/team mate’ and his wife!
We do need to get another striker to help our Harry upfront though. I reckon Dybala would look good obscured by the east stand pillars!

  4. I can’t believe Levy would pay that sort of money for what he would see as a back up striker. Jansen is a far more realistic purchase and would fit better into the existing setup.

  5. Just can’t believe we waste time debating such crap and even more so that people write such stupid articles.Levy paying this amount for a not so great a striker well…..there is more chance of ISIS winning the Nobel Peace prize.
