Spurs have been linked today with two deals involving Bundesliga clubs, with one player supposedly on his way from White Hart Lane and another potentially coming in.
One of those transfers looks pretty unlikely. The German publication Express claims that Tottenham are challenging Liverpool for the Cologne left-back Jonas Hector, who is currently impressing for the German national team at Euro 2016.
While the £17m rated 26-year old is clearly a fine player, there seems to be no need for the club to buy another left-back. Danny Rose was in superb form last season and his deputy Ben Davies – who is also impressing at Euro 2016 – was much improved. Spurs’ link with Hector seems likely to be just a way of getting Liverpool to hurry up and make a bid for the player.
Perhaps a more realistic transfer story comes from The Sun – however unlikely that sounds. They claim that Borussia Dortmund are interested in a move for Nacer Chadli.
Anyone who saw Dortmund trounce Tottenham’s second-string last season might question why they might want to buy a player who struggled to play regularly last season. Yet during his time in England and before that Holland, Chadli has proved that he can be a useful goalscorer from the flanks.
With Dortmund having just sold Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United, they are clearly in the market for reinforcements in this area. Is it possible that Chadli fits the bill and if so, would he be moving to a team where he’d stand even less of a chance of securing regular football than at Spurs?
Hope not – Chadli in full form is worth his weight as a specialist left sided mid-fielder. We are lacking in that area and while Eriksen sometimes drifts left he’s more natural in the central hole behind the striker with Lamela on his right. I think Chadli can have a big season with us next year and so hope he wants to stay.
Dele is playing behind Kane for the forseeabke future and Erikson will be on the left but he does wear out quickly and think chadki provides a different kind of skillset on that side so when we are tied or behind late in games he can come in to provide a spark if the price is right he may go but I can’t see levy taking a hit losing money on a player that can be very useful
I hope hector can play as a striker so that
Hector is a fullback not a striker
Think Hector would be a great signing, seems more adaptable to a high standard of European football than Ben Davies. As good as Davies has played at Euro 2016 I think that Hector would be a much more suitable rotation player with Danny Rose for next season.
As For Nacer Chadli, I think he’s a solid player who’s scored some important goals in his time at spurs but having said that, I wouldn’t be gutted to see him leave. Good buisness by spurs if you ask me.
I’d be sad to see Chadli go because he is a great backup.. But I would understand his desire to leave given that his lack of playing time saw him miss out on the Euros with Belgium.
