After the defeat to Juventus we wrote about the second-half performance of Harry Winks and his chances of usurping the likes of Tom Carroll and Ryan Mason in the Spurs squad in the coming season.
Today Winks added more fuel to the argument with a composed display against Atletico Madrid. Though Tottenham lost the match 1-0, the young side dominated possession and Winks was impressive in the heart of the midfield.
Spurs fans were certainly impressed by the 20-year old. Here’s how they reacted to Winks’ performance on Twitter.
.@HarryWinks: "I thought we played very well. I really enjoyed it and I want to prove that I can hold my own." pic.twitter.com/p9QhopOHuk

I don't want to get too excited but Winks & Edwards are England's answer to Xavi & Iniesta aren't they?

Harry Winks looks so comfortable in possession. Definitely something to come from him, exciting prospect #COYS

#thfc Winks is making a good statement in Melbourne. Very bright and positive. Just guilty of being a little overambitious at times.

#thfc Harry Winks is a clever player. Tougher than he looks & gets about. Chance too, with Bentaleb off & jury out on Mason/Carroll.

Wanyama and Winks should make our bench next season ahead of Mason and Carroll. Likes of CCV/Edwards for cup runs too would be fantastic.

Commentators talking about a Winks loan to a Championship club. Forget that, I’m starting to think he could play for Spurs this season.

The more I see of Winks the more I think we won't be seeing very much of Ryan Mason or Tom Carroll this season. #Quality

Thing I noticed most todsy was Harry Winks initiating quick ball movement. He looks like he belongs #COYS #SpursInOz #ICCMelb

Scandalous that Winks still hasn't been given 40 as his squad number.
