You can’t do much better on your home debut than to score a hat-trick. Especially if you were only brought on at half-time.
That’s what Grant Ward did today on his debut for Ipswich, just five days after signing from Spurs.
Ward had been on the pitch a mere 39 seconds when he put Ipswich 1-0 up against Barnsley, sparking a thrilling second-half in which the Tractor Boys would win 4-2 and Ward would score three goals.
Ward only scored two goals while out on loan at Rotherham last season, to beat that total within a single half was something of a surprise. Let’s hope that Tottenham were prepared and remembered to insert a sell-on clause in that contract.
Another example of a Spurs academy player not getting a chance in the first team. The list is endless.
Nonsense; he scored three out of nowhere goals in a championship game between two teams both of whom defended woefully. One of those defending woefully was Grant Ward. Who would you displace from the current Spurs lineup to give him his ‘chance’? Which other player in the current huge squad is he better than?
Under Poch there are plenty of youngsters getting a chance… He has dropped a level and scored 3 with poor defending!
