If you thought that pre-season friendlies were games played without consequence, think again. Following Tottenham’s 6-1 mauling of Inter Milan on Friday, manager Roberto Mancini has been sacked by the Serie A giants.

Mancini has been replaced with a coach that not so long ago was being linked with the Spurs job – Frank de Boer. The Dutch legend was a free agent having left Ajax at the end of last season.

Tottenham ripped Inter apart in Oslo, with Harry Kane (2), Erik Lamela, Dele Alli, Vincent Janssen and Shayon Harrison scoring the goals. After the game, Mancini decided to praise his team’s first-half performance, rather than overtly criticise their defending and it seems that Inter’s owners were not impressed.
