Spurs kick off the season with a trip to Everton today and Mauricio Pochettino has two key decisions to make.

When all fit the goalkeeper and back four pick themselves. The only doubt is over Jan Vertonghen. He’s been declared available after injury, but has not had much of a pre-season, so Kevin Wimmer and Cameron Carter-Vickers are other options.

In midfield, Mousa Dembele is suspended and could be replaced by either a withdrawn Dele Alli, Ryan Mason, Victor Wanyama or Harry Winks. We’d go for Wanyama alongside Eric Dier, to snuff out the threat of Everton midfielders such as Ross Barkley.

Up front the in-form trio of Erik Lamela, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen will supply the bullets for Harry Kane, with new signing Vincent Janssen ready to help from the bench. Here’s our Tottenham team to face Everton. What’s yours?

  1. Dier will be the DM not Wanyama. Porch has already said that Wanyama can play further forward and Dier has never been an MC or advance forward. Wanyama will play in the Dembele box-to-box role.

  2. Yes, definitely my preferred selection, with Wanyama in the more advanced CM position rather than Dier, who will retain his usual DM role. A strong side, with these possible options from the bench. Vorm, Davies, Wimmer, Mason, Winks, Onomah, Janssen.
