An improved second half performance from Tottenham earned the visitors a draw at Everton on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign.
Ross Barkley’s free-kick bounced all the way in to give the hosts the lead inside five minutes. Things got worse for Spurs when Hugo Lloris was forced off with a hamstring injury.
After a poor first half display, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were much improved after the break thanks to the introduction of new boy Vincent Janssen.
Tottenham gradually became the better side, eventually equalising when Erik Lamela nodded in an excellent Kyle Walker cross. Spurs had chances to win it, but they’ll take a point after struggling to initially get into the game.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the result and performance.
Big ? to Michel Vorm for that save on half-time. Game over if that goes in, I reckon. #COYS

Thankful for the point after a very slow start, but a lot of work to do #THFC. Mr. Lamela, as you were…

Never win on the opening day, my bet that Lamela will score all of Tottenham's goals this season is looking good though. #COYS

Much better second half. Some players off the pace. Alli and Kane particularly. But it's one down. And unbeaten. #COYS

Some world class knee-jerkery today. It's the first game of the season. Players are not match fit, systems are rusty, new arrivals need time

First half best forgotten. Second so much better once we woke up and should have won it. Not gonna lie, I'm a big Janssen fan already.

Can only assume Pochettino read the riot act to the players at HT, much improved 2nd half a case of if we can't win it don't lose it.#THFC

Satisfactory point in a difficult away match, and could have been three. Janssen and Kane together look full of mischief #COYS #EVETOT

Realistically, I don't think we can catch Hull now. Focus on the Champions League, IMHO.

So far from an ideal start. A point at Goodison not terrible, but iffy performance and Hugo injury take off what little gloss there is

Fairly good start at Goodison. Good second half and promising signs that Janssen can make an impact – the players will grow into the season!

Toby my man of the match. Impeccable throughout. Very encouraged by how we played when Janssen came on.

Great result for an away opener. Broke the losing streak, lads fought for it. Janssen impressed. #COYS

A 1-1 draw away to Everton won't end our season. However Spurs being slow starters happens again. Should have really won the game lads #COYS

A point away to the Toffees on opening day is not bad. We had worst opening days and Everton is always a hard place to play at. #COYS
