West Bromwich Albion have agreed to pay £13 million for Tottenham midfielder Nacer Chadli, according to Sky Sports.

The deal represents a club-record fee for West Brom and will see Spurs make a £6 million profit on an unwanted fringe player. Even Daniel Levy’s biggest doubters will be impressed by the chairman’s latest piece of shrewd business.

Chadli was initially expected to join the Baggies on a season-long loan, but it seems the stances of both clubs has changed with West Brom willing to pay a hefty fee and Tottenham happy to let the Belgian leave permanently.

Here’s how Spurs fans reacted to the news on Twitter.

  1. Yet another player who promised much but generally failed to deliver.
“Moving to the next level”…what does that mean?
Well it means that we have players who will play to 110% of their ability.
There will be more shocks on the way….

  2. How did he fail to deleiver his goals were valuable ,you can sign players for 15 mill who’ve only got one goal a season in them,

  3. Should have been played as an out & out striker option , target man. Dont think he was good enough if we want to win trophies. But could say that about Simpson, Morgan, Drinkwater etc

  4. i think chadli a pretty good player scored some great goals why people say hasent done much he has hardly hade any game time second best scorer next to kane why sell ooh sorry mr levy forgot you need the money to buy george why a bloody mess every transfer window no wonder mitchell left hope we can rediscover our form for this season

  5. I have watched spurs for 30 years and I would say chadli is a good squad player……his goals has helped…..not sure why we keep selling with transfer dateline so close…..

  6. His best position was always second striker. He rarely got the chance to play there, but even when he did come on (usually shoved out wide) he usually produced or created something. I’m sorry to see him go.

This is worrying: Levy is trimming the squad at a time when he ought to be stocking up for a Champions League campaign. In today’s market, how much is it going to cost to replace Chadli with someone of equivalent (as in “useful squad player”, which he is) quality?

Onomah’s hyped, but has done nothing spectacular so far. N’Jie’s been a lightweight flop, as has Son. Things are starting to look a bit sparse.

  7. Always leaving transfer to late to buy mr levy early in the transfer window could of tried to buy mkerterian a type of player we desperately need I feel we can’t unlock teams they just sit back and try and catch us on the break another player is sissoko from Newcastle I was saying we should try and buy him soon as they got relegated they was talking bout 10/12million for him had a good euros talking 30/35million we had a good season last year and sissoko ripped us apart twice one off only players that did that we need a playmaker everyone keep telling me eriksen is he is good but when u look at other teams like Liverpool coutino West Ham payet Chelsea hazard and Man U and city have 2 or 3 players like it I worry they will come out with a load of crap we tried to buy a player like this in the last 2 hours of the window like get the money out and get it done

  8. Can’t understand what spurs are doing? Thought we were supposed to be increasing the size and depth of the squad? Sell, sell, sell…when are we getting players in? Our bench is weak and kurdish squad size is so small! Sad to see chadli gone . Fans who didn’t rate him are going to be provern wrong
