Tottenham left it late to earn a point against West Brom, but who played well and who failed to impress at the Hawthorns?
Hugo Lloris, 7
Made an important double save just before half time when his concentration levels had to be tip-top after a quiet opening period. Was unlucky in his attempt to parry the ball away before Chadli’s goal only to see it come off his own body and fall to the goalscorer’s feet.
Kyle Walker, 7
Put in one notable tackle in the second half that stopped a promising West Brom attack developing. Didn’t get forward as much as he generally likes to, perhaps because the full backs were deployed in a slightly narrower defensive set-up than usual.
Toby Alderweireld, 7
Was a little wasteful on the ball early on but was his usual composed self at the back until being forced off with a serious looking injury in the second half.
Jan Vertonghen, 7
A crucial header in the second half prevented what would have been a huge chance for the hosts. Played a part in keeping Spurs in the game in a 7/10 display from the entire defence.
Ben Davies, 7
Did far more than his fellow full back Walker going forward. Nearly scored an ambitious volley and surged into the box effectively a couple of times. Promising from a player who usually looks inept in attacking areas when deputising for Danny Rose.
Victor Wanyama, 8
Followed up his stunning display against Manchester City with another brilliant performance shielding the back four. Wanyama covers so much ground it’s almost incomprehensible, sweeping up others’ mistakes and breaking up countless opposition attacks.
Christian Eriksen, 7
Most of Tottenham’s good play going forward went through Eriksen. The Dane was incredibly unlucky not to find the net with a low drive in the first half and a deceptive free kick right at the end, both superbly saved by Ben Foster. His critics will say he must make his mark more often.
Moussa Sissoko, 5
I’m a big advocate for patience, but can understand why some Spurs supporters are already having doubts about Sissoko. Again today, he looked inferior to most of his teammates in terms of quality and impact. Did plenty of running, though, which will please his manager — that’s something, at least.
Erik Lamela, 5
Another under-par display from a player who started the season impressively with a goal at Everton. Was sloppy in the final third and wasted one of the visitors’ best chances early in the game. Could lose his place in the team if performances don’t improve.
Dele Alli, 7
Missed a really good chance in the first half that would have made things easier for Spurs, but kept working and was eventually rewarded with a brilliantly taken goal late on. Alli is becoming one of Spurs’ key goal threats in Harry Kane’s absence.
Vincent Janssen, 7
Unfortunately the same can’t be said for Janssen, who isn’t getting any closer to that first goal from open play. Thankfully, though, his hold up-play is a genuinely effective attribute, allowing him to dictate the pace of attacks and create significant chances. For that reason, the Soldado comparisons are unjustified.
Substitutes
Eric Dier, 6
Replaced Alderweireld and was part of a defence that slackened to allow Chadli’s opener, but can hardly be blamed for that. Expect to see Dier in that right-sided centre half spot for however long Toby is out.
Mousa Dembele, 6
Played to his usual strengths but perhaps wasn’t the right player to bring on when Tottenham were looking for a goal.
Heung-Min Son, 7
Injected pace and ambition into Spurs’ stuttering attack when it was needed — probably should have been introduced earlier.

WBA strategy was for a one nil victory. In hindsight the Tony Pulls plan was to go for a nil – nil draw or score on a set piece where Spurs seem particularly vulnerable. WBA defended with all their players very well making it so difficult to get inside. Smart guy this Pulis. Very disciplined. Why isn’t he ever mentioned as a prospective England manager? Anyway, well done to Spurs for not giving up and fighting for the equaliser. Tottenham’s determination was excellent. I hope Toby makes a speedy recovery. He should be our Captain, IMO. COYS!
I don’t know what game you guys watch? It is the same old Spurs – nothing changes. One good show against City and we get excited. All other games we have lived by the edge. Same story – passing sideways and backwards and so slowly that the opposition has enough time to build the defense. Hardly any decent shots and when balls are crossed over the goal line there is no one across to slide in or shoot in (learn from Arsenal). Lloris is over rated – he makes saves he is supposed to as a keeper (so does Gomes) otherwise bad passing and not holding on to balls when required. One good break we had and 2 on one and Eriksen makes a pathetic pass to the opponent. Only Davies was good – all others average (for a team that wants to win trophies).. PS passing and keeping possession without end products means nothing. Until today we have not learnt how to take advantage of corner kicks? Usually very poor! Goals matter … and now it is the likes of Mason/Chadli/Bentaleb/Dafoe who are scoring… Sad,,very sad as we will always be inferior to Arsenal.
You can moan and groan but understand what football is about. Maybe Bournemouth will tell us more at yesterdays performance. Lastly good wishes for recovery to Alderweireld .

A lot of truth there. You forgot to mention how, season after season, we have not learnt to defend set-pieces and corners; always look so vulnerable. And why do so many Spurs fans continue to sing Lamela’s praises? Nearly every week he is substituted and gains the least ratings score – 5 again this week. Really has been given every chance but is poor value for £30M. Toby’s injury a big worry. Time for Verts to step up.
Had to reply MP-DX cos Hugo is my favourite…agree his distribution is poor, maybe ‘worser’ but, he is our Captain (et pour Les Bleus) and I reckon there’s considerable input from him ‘off-field’.

Lloris was unlucky with their goal as the ball came back off the post and hit his leg pushing it into Chadli’s path.However his distribution has seriously regressed this season with under hit passes and apparent unawareness of danger around him.It’s like he expects as much time on the ball as he requires.
We certainly have to convert our possession stats into goals and points.If we could get Isco this would help immensely.We need better crossing in from the flanks and more assured finishing.It’s amazing we can boss City one week but fail completely to overcome a team like WBA knowing exactly how they are going to be setup.Credit Foster too for his performance.
It was noticable that Wimmer was not on the bench yesterday,I hope he gets his chance while Toby is out injured.Dier should stay at DCM.
