Tottenham’s success rate in the transfer market has been mixed since the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino in 2014, particularly when it comes to young players.
For every Dele Alli there has been a Clinton N’Jie. Regardless, it’s clear Pochettino prefers to work with younger players, so Spurs will keep looking to sign the next big thing.
The Star reports Tottenham are interested in 18-year-old Dutch forward Ozancan Kokcu, but face competition from Everton.
The story suggests Kokcu, who currently plays for Eredivisie side Feyenoord, and his agent will make a decision about the player’s future very soon. Apparently, Spurs are “pursuing the contract the hardest.”
Many young players from around Europe would relish the chance to play under Pochettino given his track record with developing high potential youngsters.
Of course, Kokcu might be tempted to work with his countryman Ronald Koeman at Everton, which would rid any doubts over a potential language barrier.
Kokcu is out of contract at the end of the season, so whoever agrees to sign the player will only have to pay a compensation fee to acquire him in the summer.
