We’ve all seen the picture — Diego Maradona in a Tottenham shirt. The Argentinian legend, who is considered one of the best footballers ever, played in Ossie Ardiles’ testimonial in May 1986.
Ardiles went on to become Spurs manager, and former Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham has revealed Ardiles made moves to sign Maradona in 1993.
Sheringham was speaking to Stadium Astro when he revealed the story many thought was merely a myth.
While it’s a shame the deal never happened, Spurs signed Jurgen Klinsmann instead — hardly a terrible alternative.
