Mauricio Pochettino has made quite the impression since arriving at Tottenham, with many believing the only thing missing from his reign is a trophy.

And his modest achievements haven’t gone unnoticed. According to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, Spanish giants Barcelona, who will be managerless come the end of the season, are “fans” of the Spurs manager.

Balague told Sky Sports: “The club [Barcelona] have got a shortlist, they’ve spoken to people.

“They left out their impressions on coaches who are already in jobs and some that are at the end of their contracts. Some of them, I’m sure, have already been given the call. It includes Ernesto Valverde and Laurent Blanc.”

He added: “I know that Pochettino has got a lot of fans at Barcelona.

“Jorge Sampaoli [Sevilla’s manager] is pushing himself but every time I ask the club they say he’s not the man because they want somebody who understands the club, either by being a player there or just being close to the club.”

Having not played for Barcelona, it appears there is a good chance Pochettino will still be with Tottenham next season. Although the Argentine is familiar with the area having managed Espanyol.

If Spurs end the season trophyless, it would be a surprise to see a club of Barcelona’s stature approach a manager with so few tangible achievements.

Then again, current boss Luis Enrique had never won anything before managing Barcelona. He did, however, play for the club.
