If there’s one thing Tottenham have struggled with since the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino in the summer of 2014, it’s recruitment.
Toby Alderweireld and Victor Wanyama have been hugely successful signings, while Heung-Min Son has mostly impressed.
But Pochettino has mainly been forced to work with what he already has. Last summer’s additions — Moussa Sissoko, Geroges-Kevin N’Koudou and Vincent Janssen — have been particularly disappointing.
Paul Mitchell, generally considered to be the man in charge of recruitment, is currently serving his notice with the club.
And now The Telegraph reports Pochettino is set to sit down with chairman Daniel Levy to discuss additions that could be made to the squad this summer.
The report suggests Spurs hold an interest in Ross Barkley and Wilfried Zaha, while Burnley striker Andre Grey could also be considered a potential target.
Zaha has been linked for a while now, but Tottenham’s interest in Barkley only surfaced in January — the midfielder will have just one year left on his Everton contract at the end of the season.
Well, if Mr Pochetino is to sit down to discuss transfers with Mr Levy he better take a lawyer with him for any agreement he may give he will need it in writing. For, history shows that when it comes to the transfer market he likes to show off as we continually see. Other club directors hate dealing with him which often mean a breakdown in negotiations.
We were informed last year that Mr Pochetino would have the final say in all transfers. I hope this is in writing too. Every fan knows we have a great first eleven but at we’ll short of backups. Sadly, our wonderful young training program is not as yet able to supply players quick enough for the premier league.
So, good luck with your meeting Mr Pochetino. I just hope you are still with us next season and beyond and have not taken over at Barcelona.
Poch isnt going anywhere! This is a 5+ year project and we can all see what he’s working towards achieving. It took Fergie four seasons til he got silverware and look what he went on to do. Patience and perseverance are the key – and Levy knows how important it is to show faith in our manager.
