Only Tottenham can win “comfortably win” and “scrape past” their opponents simultaneously. Spurs dominated proceedings but only edged past Everton at White Hart Lane.
Harry Kane opened the scoring in the first half with a stunning goal from long range. The striker doubled the hosts’ advantage in the early stages of the second half.
Romelu Lukaku took advantage of a Jan Vertonghen slip to put Everton back in with a chance. Dele Alli appeared to seal the points in stoppage time but Spurs were made to sweat after another Everton goal at the death.

Still, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were undeniably worthy winners. Here’s how Twitter reacted to the result and performance.
3-2 massively flattered Everton. In the end we made hard work of it but such a vital win.

A 3-2 result from a 4-0 performance.
Still more than happy. Home form is outstanding.

Made hard work of it in the end but dominant. Two poor defensive errors led to their goals. And Harry Kane showing he’s better than Lukaku.

It was never going to be easy to beat an in-form Everton side & we always struggle vs. them, so this was a big win. Could have scored more.

This celebration from Poch means everything to me. pic.twitter.com/1gEYi46fSe

That’s the most one-sided 3-2 you’ll ever see.

Spurs have saved my weekend. Nervy end to the game but such an important win. So much love for @HKane. What a player! #COYS #THFC

By the way, the free kick that Winks took for Dele’s goal. Magnificent. What a ball. #COYS #THFC

Strange one, that. Was not a 3-2 game at all – we were largely dominant. Jan, Dier, Dele and Kane the best four.

Lloris is pathetic in coming for a cross. We seem to concede everytime a cross comes into our box.
Central defenders are very poor in the air but Lloris does not help in this respect at all.
bloody hell Baz lighten up we won be happy 9 in a row fantastic C.O.Y.S
But we still have the best defence is the league. How are you saying that we’re not good in the air. They didn’t score a header.
Its was nice porfermance ,because we got what we need .we lose onther chances also because of the riffery .in the first half foul to kane from ashly Williams and Christian eriksens goal .it was offside the line man was late ,that’s he didn’t saw it properly.Any how its good to have the three points ,thanks to kane and ali .but today I will buck jan ,he was nice except the slip against lukaku.
