Tottenham secured a tenth successive Premier League victory at White Hart Lane with a hairy 2-1 win over Southampton.
Christian Eriksen opened the scoring on 14 minutes with a fine left-footed strike. Dele Alli doubled the hosts’ advantage from the spot and Spurs went into half-time comfortably ahead.
Southampton came out much improved in the second half and got a goal back through James Ward-Prowse after a rare Toby Alderweireld mistake.
There were more than a few risky moments for Tottenham in the second half, and they did little right going forward.
But Mauricio Pochettino’s side saw out the result to secure a huge win that sees them stay second in the Premier League. Here’s how Twitter reacted to the result and performance.

#thfc Spurs didn't miss Harry Kane's goals today but missed his hold-up play and aerial ability in the second half.

We are so good at killing a game off now, well played Spurs. #COYS

Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen & Hueng-Min Son have scored 41 goals this season combined in all, not bad for a side who rely on Harry Kane. ? pic.twitter.com/U3NQVNTioN

Nail biting second half but saw game out well against a good team. What a home record this is. Fortress The Lane! Wanyama MOTM

Winks confidence is growing. Showed a different side to his game there. Running at players and beating them, and some great aggression

Superb gritty performance. Janssen and Winks helped to grind out the victory. Well played everyone #totsou

Two yrs ago we would have lost that. Last year we would have Drawn. This year we scraped out a win w/o Kane. Massive win. #COYS

That was a really tough match, Southampton were organised and stopped us passing the ball in our usual style. Romeu was highly effective.

Janssen done well after coming on. Brought us some valuable time by winning a few late free kicks – work rate again first class.

Hard fought win. We were put under pressure right from the start of the second half. Fortunately Shane Long was born offside. #COYS
