According to The Mirror, Liverpool have joined the race to sign Schalke star Max Meyer, who is also being targeted by Tottenham and Everton.
Dubbed the ‘German Dele Alli’, Meyer is believed to be considering his future with just over a year remaining on his contract with Schalke.
The Bundesliga club wanted £45 million for Meyer last summer, which saw Spurs cool their interest. But the report claims Schalke could sell the 21-year-old for a third of that price this summer.
Given his similarities to Dele Alli, Tottenham would be wise to move for Meyer with Alli set to miss three European games next season through suspension.
Having missed out on Alli when he moved to Spurs, Liverpool won’t want to see yet another high-potential player get away. They’re likely to offer Meyer bigger wages, too.
Meyer is a full international, but is thought to be keen on a fresh start in order to cement his place in future Germany squads.
