Former Tottenham star Gareth Bale has told Metro that Dele Alli could play for any club in the world.

Bale became the second Spurs player in two years, after Luka Modric, to leave the club for Real Madrid in the summer of 2013. And if the rumour mill is to be believed, Alli could be the next Tottenham player on Madrid’s shortlist.

It’s important to note there are no concrete reports suggesting the La Liga giants courting Alli, but with the 21-year-old improving all the time, rumours are bound to emerge.

Asked if Alli is the sort of player who has what it takes to do well abroad, Bale said: “In terms of his ability he could play wherever he wants — he’s achieved so much in such a short period of time that he must have great confidence in his ability to affect games at a high level.”

Bale has impressed since moving to Spain, winning two Champions League titles in three seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu.

British players thriving oversees is a rare occurrence, however, and with Alli being so young, perhaps a potential move abroad isn’t an immediate priority.
