Manchester United are preparing a £40 million bid for Eric Dier, according to The Mirror.
Dier has been much improved for Spurs since the turn of the year, playing a big part in the nine successive league wins before the defeat at West Ham last week.
The 23-year-old lost his place in midfield to Victor Wanyama at the beginning of the season, but has primarily been used in a back three.
Dier recently stepped back into midfield in Wanyama’s absence and has proven himself capable of switching between his two favoured positions mid-game.
But if Spurs sign another centre-back next season, Dier will have to fight off further competition, meaning a move to Manchester United might become tempting.
Yesterday it was revealed by Daniel Levy that Tottenham won’t sell anyone for non-footballing reasons this summer.
Dier signed a new contract worth £50,000-a-week last September. United could almost definitely doubled those figures, so Spurs may need to prepare yet another new deal for the player.
That’s probably unlikely, however, as Levy has also suggested that those who have signed new contracts in the last year are expected to honour their long-term deals.
Whether United qualify for next season’s Champions League could have an effect on Dier’s future. Logically, there’s a good chance he’ll still be a Tottenham player come September.
It is so laughable. Not only do the Manchester besotted press go on a virtual shopping trip for Utd, but also decide the price!! Spurs do not have to sell anyone, and if the did they set the price, and further they should restrict any dealings to respected clubs . So enough for that rumour!!

Man utd at it again.. Dier is a good player but not a world class player yet. If he can mature into a world class player only time will tell. He is similar type of player united already have so i dont see him making the team m better. If he does go spurs will survive. Winks waiting in the wings…
