Everton will look to sell Tottenham target Ross Barkley for £50 million this summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract, according to The Daily Mail.

Last week Ronald Koeman revealed Barkley will be sold if he doesn’t sign a new contract before Everton’s final game of the season, an away trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

There has been no update since, and it is looking increasingly likely the midfielder will leave Goodison Park this summer.

Spurs and Arsenal are believed to be the frontrunners for Barkley’s signature. The Daily Mail claims Everton want £50 million for the 23-year-old.

Barkley has just one year left on his contract. I can’t see Daniel Levy paying anywhere near £50 million for player in that kind of situation.

Victor Wanyama arrived at Tottenham for around £11 million last summer — Spurs managed to seal a cut-price deal because the midfielder had just one year left on his Southampton contract.

Barkley is English, so he’ll obviously command a larger fee than Wanyama. But £50 million is absurd.

  1. Fifty million? Not a chance. At this stage, not worth more than 15 million. Sounds like Everton have lost this potentially fine young player.
