Newcastle United are preparing a bid for defender Florian Lejeune, who has been “closely watched” by Tottenham and Arsenal, according to The Northern Echo.

Lejeune was signed by Manchester City but immediately loaned back to his previous club Girona in the summer of 2015. He moved to his current club Eibar the following summer.

The Echo’s story claims the 26-year-old has a release clause of £8.7 million and that Newcastle are set to make a move in the coming transfer window.

But Spurs have apparently watched Lejeune closely and could also put in a bid.
