Tottenham are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva, according to reports in Portugal.

The 28-year-old was one of the stand-out performers in the Portugal side that won Euro 2016 last summer.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Spurs are “committed” to signing the midfielder to bolster their squad for next season.

Sporting apparently value Silva at around €30 million (roughly £26 million).

I’m very reluctant to believe this one. For the first time in years, Tottenham surely won’t be prioritising a central midfielder in the summer transfer window.

Victor Wanyama has been sublime since joining from Southampton last year, while Eric Dier has proved to be almost undroppable.

Mousa Dembele has become a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s set up, and his fitness issues have quickened the introduction of Harry Winks into Spurs fold.

In an emergency, Christian Eriksen can drop deep from his more advanced role to play in the middle of the park, so it’s unlikely Pochettino will be making a move for such an expensive midfielder this summer.
