Tottenham are set to begin talks with Toby Alderweireld over a new contract, according to The Mirror.

Alderweireld has been one of Spurs’ stand-out players over the last two seasons. As a result, many supporters believe he deserves to become one of the club’s top earners on par with Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris, who earn in excess of £100,000-a-week.

The Belgian currently earns around £50,000-a-week, but The Mirror claims Tottenham are willing to double those figures and make Alderweireld one of the club’s highest paid players.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Spurs as talks over a new deal continue to drag. Inter Milan are believed to be interested in taking him to Italy while other European giants are certain to be keen.

But it looks like Tottenham are eager to tie Alderweireld down to prevent a premature exit. Kyle Walker is expected to leave for Manchester City in the coming weeks, and Spurs won’t want any other first team players to follow suit.

  1. According to the mirror eh….As for Walker, we were given to believe by the daily star, sun and mirror, that he was out the door the minute the whistle blew signalling the end of final game of the season. Four weeks later and he’s still a Spurs player. What’s the bet that in two weeks time we’ll read that in another two weeks he’ll be expected to leave us for City? I guess these rags are privy to THFC boardroom discussions…yeah right.

  2. Absolutely right to double both his and Jan Vertonghens salaries. The greed of Man City should be taken as should Walker s as. You want him then Pay. And with at least 10% of a 50 million plus transfer fee that would be sufficient to up Toby Jan and Christian s money as well give Dele a bonus too
