Ross Barkley will have to accept a smaller salary than Everton have offered if he is to join Tottenham, according to reports.

The midfielder is expected to leave Everton in the coming weeks after refusing to sign a new deal at the end of last season.

Last week, Toffees manager Ronald Koeman all but confirmed Barkley will leave Everton in the current transfer window.

Spurs have been heavily linked, but a deal is being held up because of Barkley’s wage demands.

According to The Mirror, Everton offered the 23-year-old a weekly wage of £120,000. Tottenham are not willing to pay Barkley that amount.

Reliable Spurs journalists Ben Pearce and Dan Kilpatrick also claim the deal has stalled because of the wage issue as well as Everton refusing to budge on their valuation of the player.

Barkley would be a useful addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, but Tottenham must consider how much that usefulness is worth.

  1. This is the time we should be getting the last pieces of our puzzle together. If we get any players it would give them time to gel together for our season at Wembley. Then we should go out at our new ground and show everyone that we need top players at spurs.COYS Levy get your cheque book out,and buy us some more top top quality players

  2. Everton fc supporter says,,,,any club wanting to get Barkley should be wary as he will probably leave when he doesn’t get his own way or the inflated wage he thinks he is due isn’t forthcoming. As an EFC fan I will be sorry when he leaves, but at the end of the day do we (or anyone else ) really need a player who shines occasionally but for the most part runs around achieving little on the pitch. He could have been an Everton great but will depart with a ‘nearly man’ reputation
