Phil Neville believes Ross Barkley should join Tottenham this summer if he is to fulfil his potential.
The former Everton captain and England international was speaking on a Sky Sports show called ‘The Debate’ when he claimed Mauricio Pochettino would be the perfect manager for Barkley.
Neville said: “He’s [Barkley] leaving Everton Football Club. Ronald Koeman has said that. I think he’s a top, top player and I think he needs to play for one of the top clubs in the Champions League.
“If you look at clubs go to, managers to play for, I can only see one – and that’s Mauricio Pochettino.
“I think Jose (Mourinho) likes ready-made (players) and I can’t see him joining Manchester United. Will he develop at Arsenal or Chelsea? I think Tottenham’s the only club for him.
“I think Ross Barkley has to choose the right manager, someone who is going to improve him and challenge him, and more importantly someone who is going to coach him and make him a better footballer.
“Pochettino is that man. I think there are enough games and opportunities at Tottenham where he can fit in. He needs to be taken out of his comfort zone. He has got the ability to step up.”
Tottenham fans will be hoping the 23-year-old looks at Mauricio Pochettino’s record of developing English players when he decides on his next location.
