Tottenham face champions Chelsea in their first home game of the new Premier League season at Wembley on Sunday, and Mauricio Pochettino has a number decisions to make regarding his team selection.
Kieran Trippier is set to be assessed tomorrow to see if he will be fit for Sunday. If not, I expect Kyle Walker-Peters will retain his place on the right side of defence.
Victor Wanyama and Heung-Min Son both started on the bench in the win at Newcastle. Depending on the formation Pochettino opts for, either Wanyama or Son will probably be in the starting line-up.
I think he’ll go with Wanyama in a 3-4-3 formation. That means Eric Dier will drop into a back three, while Walker-Peters and Ben Davies will function as wing-backs. Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are certain to start in front of captain Hugo Lloris.
Wanyama and Mousa Dembele are likely to support a front three of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Harry Kane. Son will be a great option to use from the bench.
Agree with your 3-4-3 formation and team selection although I am wary of putting Walker-Peters in the game vs. Chelsea so I would start him but if he is error prone positionally or just not up to the task in general, I would perhaps give Sissoko a shot at RWB and see what happens.
I think Walker Peters should play. He was outstanding on s debut. I don’t think he will be phased. He dominated against Newcastle and looks very comfortable with positioning. Remember he’s been in our accadeny pkstingvthe sane system as the 1st team. I feel he’s earned the right after that match.
That said if Tripps is fit he has s killer crossing ability
It must be as we played them st WHL last season. We push them and dictate play. And missing Hazard is a huge bonus. He changed two games against us last season.
It must be 3-4-3 and with our front three they will be a nightmare with Cahill missing.
Surely we take real advantage of this
Comment: also find feel KWP too inexperienced for this one. if tripper somehow makes it, 4231 with Son joining Eriksen and Alli, behind Kane, and Dier dropping to the bench so Wanyama can partner Dembele.
If Trippier can not start, 343 with Son dropping to the bench, Dier in the back 3, with Sissoko as wing back.
KWP will get enough games as the season progresses. Cannot say he was brilliant after playing well after Newcastle had a red card, which left him unmarked. Also almost concede a penalty at 0-0 before the red card, luckily saved by offside. that would have put us in a difficult position.
I do however believe in him, we should not sign another RB it Sissoko can play wing back and new signing Sanchez can also cover there if needed.
I think a 3-4-2-1 would be a good choice.
Kane
Eriksen Alli
Son Dembele Wanyama Sissoko
Sanchez Alderwiereld Vertonghen
Sanchez hasn’t got his work permit yet so isn’t an option.
