Tottenham are closing in on an “agreement in principle” to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier, according to reports in France.
Reports last week suggested Spurs had already agreed a £20 million fee with PSG for the right-back, but those claims appear to be premature.
A fee is apparently yet to be settled on, but French publication L’Equipe believes Tottenham are now close to agreeing an “agreement in principle” to sign Aurier for €25m (around £23m).
The story also claims Spurs have already agreed personal terms with the 24-year-old.
However, there is work to be done if Aurier is to be granted a work permit to play in England.
The Ivory Coast international is currently waiting on an appeal against a two-month prison sentence for violence against a French prison officer.
Aurier’s behaviour throughout his career has been contentious at best, leading many fans to question why the club is pursuing him at all.
To be honest, I think he is the perfect signing for us. He is very quick, strong, has an engine, he is good going forward and good defensively, it’s obvious why we want him regardless of his attitude. He is a player that Pochettino will work with and get the best out of. If we get him, it will be a great signing, and Trippier may find himself on the bench again.
Nothing is ever easy where Spurs are concerned are they? I’ve see this guy in action and he can really play. Football has become so sanatised that the slightest thing a player does is magnified, analysed and opinions formed. Perhaps you can tell us how many times he’s been red carded and suspended for on field misdemeanours instead of jumping on the bandwagon that the guy carries off-field baggage. Not so long ago Kyle Walker was attached to some off-field nonsense and last night he was red carded on his home debut for Man City. Does that mean that Kyle Walker is a bad player, a bad person and a liability? Grow some balls and contest the constant drivel which is reported by the low class oiks in the media about Spurs, its players and any future player the club is trying to buy.
That is all good but when is Poch going to realise he needs attacking options. We cannot win anything by defending alone.
