Fernando Llorente has revealed he was offered an improved contract by Swansea before he chose to join Tottenham on deadline day.
Asked if he was approached with a contract extension by his former club, Llorente said yes but suggested it was impossible to turn down a move to Spurs.
“This was one possibility, but finally Tottenham made it possible for this (to happen),” the striker told WalesOnline.
“I am happy to have come here, I think Spurs are one of the best clubs in the Premier League and I think we can be among the top teams this year but obviously we have to improve on this but it is a long season.”
Llorente made his first Premier League appearance for Tottenham in the 0-0 draw against his former club on Saturday.
It’s unclear whether Swansea offered the 32-year-old better terms than Spurs. If so, it shows Llorente’s ambition to play for a top club rather than for money alone.
