Lionel Messi thinks Dele Alli is the perfect candidate to replace Barcelona’s ageing midfielders, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish outlet Don Balon claims Messi is eager for Barcelona to sign a younger midfielder with Andreas Iniesta (33) and Ivan Rakitic (29) coming to the end of their careers at the club.
Apparently, Messi has identified Alli as a potential signing. The story suggests the 21-year-old’s age and his eye for goal make him an ideal option.
For me, Don Balon is simply speculating about who could be the heir to Iniesta’s throne.
They ignore the fact that Alli is more of a forward than a midfielder these days, which makes the story lose some of its credibility. Nothing to see here.
