Josh Onomah has revealed he wants to challenge for place in the Tottenham first team when his loan spell with Aston Villa is over.

The midfielder has impressed for the Championship side, leading to suggestions he could join them permanently.

But Onomah told The Birmingham Mail he is still eager to make it as a Spurs player.

“Obviously I want to do well here and help Villa get promoted, then go back to my parent club and get back in the team,” said the 20-year-old.

“There is a lot of competition but that is football for you. You have to take it on board. I just have to keep on going. I just have to carry on in this positive mood.”

It’s worth noting that Onomah added: “Last season I did not play as much as I would have liked. This season I am playing and enjoying it.”

There’s a chance his first-team opportunities will still be limited when he returns to Tottenham next season. Perhaps he will leave the club permanently if that’s the case.
