Mauricio Pochettino has suggested Tottenham’s first half display in Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City was unacceptable.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Spurs boss emphasised the importance of taking responsibility and improving.
“The second half we were more aggressive and started to play the game. We were critical of ourselves at half-time and it’s difficult to start the way we did and win games,” Pochettino said.
“We need to assess it and take responsibility. We cannot start like this. We spoke before the game about our focus but we were poor in this phase of the game.
“The game was even and we created many chances, but we cannot concede the goals that we conceded today.
“You can do better, and do something to stop them. When you concede, it’s not only because of the quality of the opponent, it’s sometimes because you need to be aware of some situations.
“It’s true we are disappointed and frustrated, but not only for the defeat but also the performance.”
Tottenham face Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday, which now feels like a must-win game.
My say is it was so good to see a spurs side give 110 % in the 2nd half, hvnt seen commitment from a Spurs side like that. Forget the result Leicester played as it their lives depended on a result, in reality they are an average side but the effort they put in made up for their football, plus their 2 goals were outstanding.
We were lucky to beat C. palace , shocking at the Emerates, unbelievably bad against wba, the table doesn’t lie, we are not equipped for Euro football , the premier and home cups. Our squad is to thin with players under performing.THIS IS DOWN TO THE MANAGER!!!! No one else. We showed pace and urgency for 45 minutes, play like that for 90 mins and with our quality we can beat anyone, even R. Madrid! Forget the result , show that urgency at Watford and we will be smiling again.
It’s down to failures like Sissoko and Llornte the latter couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn with a big stick, the former has the delicate touch of a twitching Rhino.
Admit it…Sissoko and Llorente are abject failures. Replace them. Also Alli and Eriksen should have to compete for their places…obviously they are believing the overdone publicity. Only Harry earns his accolades.
we need a settled side there is to many chopping and changing to keep players happy IMO
Sissoko and Llorente are just too big and too heavy and slow for the type of football Poch is demanding from them. Both players look tired when they play. It’s not that they are all bad, just not suited to the speed and dynamic movement that is asked from them. Both players ineffective so far with little / no impact in any game they have played in.
1/ we badly miss Toby & Vic.
2/ Alli must return to his best as must Eriksen. They do need comp for their places
3/ dont forget the woefully underachieving Dembele in all this. For most of his time at club
4/ sadly i am better than Sissoko
5/ we need Lamela to fulfil potential
6/ need new quality players should have kept Defoe also
Don’t know if anyone else would agree with this but most of the major “issues” appear to revolve around most players looking drained and off their usual pace. The squad is paper thin. Too many high tempo games take a toll, injury list starts to get larger and before you know where you are your starting 11 just don’t cut it. Form always peaks and troughs. It’s not tactics nor has everyone worked us out. It’s just a lack of truly viable trusted squad rotation options.
