Mauricio Pochettino has backed Fernando Llorente to turn around the underwhelming start he’s made to his Tottenham career.

Llorente arrived from Swansea in the summer and many fans were delighted Spurs had added an experienced attacker to the squad.

But the 32-year-old is yet to find the net for the club. Worse still, he’s missed a few clear-cut chances to do so.

Pochettino is expected to name the Spaniard in his starting line-up against APOEL on Wednesday night.

“Of course the striker always needs to score,” said the Tottenham boss. “He has some possibility to score in the last few games but he didn’t.

“We trust in him. It’s so difficult to arrive in a club without pre-season and perform the way that you want. But I am happy with his contribution.

“Of course, he is disappointed because when he plays he didn’t score but I am sure he is going to help the team.” (Quotes via Evening Standard.)
Hopefully Llorente can open his Spurs account and gain some confidence ahead of a busy Christmas schedule. You can read our predicted XI for the APOEL game here.
