Tottenham are confident of signing young Stevenage defender Ben Wilmot, according to The Mirror.

The 18-year-old, who is also wanted by Liverpool, Leicester, Brighton and Southampton, is apparently close to joining Spurs for £850,000.

Wilmot broke into the Stevenage first team earlier this season and made his full league debut on Saturday.

It’s likely the teenager will slot straight into the development squad if he does join Tottenham – he probably isn’t quite ready for the first team.

Besides, he will have a number of central defenders ahead of him in the pecking order, including Juan Foyth and the soon-to-return Toby Alderweireld.
