Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has revealed Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool are all interested in signing him this summer.
The 25-year-old is Watford’s top scorer this season with seven league goals and has been the Hornet’s standout player in the current campaign.
Talks over a new contract are said to have stalled, which has apparently peaked the interest of Spurs.
However, they face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool according to the player himself.
“It’s true that these clubs are interested,” Doucoure told Telefoot (via Football365).
“But I’m at Watford for the moment and I want to finish my season well.”
Tottenham are reportedly on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele. Doucoure could potentially fill that role.
Alternatively, the midfielder could take the place of an outgoing squad player such as Moussa Sissoko, who I wouldn’t be surprised to see leave Spurs this summer.
However, Doucoure was also asked who he would join if given the choice between Arsenal and Tottenham.
“Arsenal,” he said, “because of Arsene Wenger.”
That obviously doesn’t bode well for Spurs’ chances of signing him, but in reality his decision is likely to depend on who is playing in the Champions League next season.
It’s certainly worth keeping an eye on this story to see how it develops.
