Former Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has suggested Harry Kane may need to leave Spurs if he wants to win trophies.

Kane scored his 150th club career goal in Tottenham’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

The striker has emerged as one of the world’s very best strikers, bagging 35 goals in all competitions this season and outscoring every player in Europe in 2017.

But former Spurs boss Villas-Boas, who repeatedly sent Kane out on loan during his time in north London, claims Kane will find it difficult to win silverware with his boyhood club.

“If he has a hunger for trophies and for notoriety he would have to leave Spurs, if he has no hunger for that, but (wants) recognition and stability, he would stay at Spurs,” said Villas Boas (via the Telegraph).

Kane has been strongly linked with Real Madrid by the Spanish media, but there have been no suggestions of contact between the two clubs as of yet.

Villas-boas went on to hint Tottenham could become the kind of club to challenge for trophies on a regular basis.

“Spurs are in that breakout moment of becoming a great football team – the (new) stadium, infrastructure, training ground is there, the team is building up, very well managed,” he added.

“The trophy cabinet is still what is missing for this great club. That is in the end what footballers chase – glory, winning.

“I think for Harry, one or two more years at Spurs wouldn’t be bad and then see how the club develops. With the new stadium coming through I also think that Spurs should have that margin from him.”

I don’t think ‘AVB’ is being facetious with his comments – he certainly isn’t the first onlooker to suggest Kane would have a better chance of success elsewhere.

But his comments are certain to irk a large number of Spurs supporters considering his misuse of Kane during his White Hart Lane tenure.

  1. It’s getting a bit tedious to be hearing this same theme from people of no significance. Everyday a new person will be pushing his own agenda to try and destabilise the Spurs effort. I don’t think Kane needs your advice. I am quite sure he is intelligent enough to plan his own future.

  2. Well said HC. I’m going to label Villas-Boas “Mr Spursy” from hereon. His opinion is as worthless as his managerial acumen. Pochettino has done more for Spurs than Villas-Boas ever could, he has made Villas-Boas look stupid. And his comments about Harry Kane only confirm his stupidity as he is shooting from the mouth to gain attention. He is basically saying Spurs will not win trophies so Harry will look elsewhere if he wants those trophies. Pessemistic ass.
