Victor Wanyama wants Tottenham to offer him a new contract amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, according to the Mirror.

The Kenyan’s current deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2021, but talk of a potential move to Liverpool or United could force Spurs’ hand.

After missing the first four months of the season with a knee injury, Wanyama returned last month and scored a stunning goal against Liverpool in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Anfield in the Premier League.

However, he has struggled to displace Eric Dier in the holding midfield role, leading to suggestions he could leave the club in search of first-team football elsewhere.

Injuries to Jan Vertonghen and Toby Adlerweireld saw Dier drop into the back four against Crystal Palace last weekend, giving Wanyama the chance to start in midfield.

I’m sure he’ll get plenty of opportunities from now until the end of the season with the fixtures coming thick and fast.

Still, Manchester United and Liverpool are both in need of a defensive midfielder – it will be interesting to see if they can test Spurs’ resolve in the summer.
