Tottenham sent scouts to watch Schalke playmaker Max Meyer over the weekend, according to reports in Spain.

Meyer played 89 minutes as Schalke ran out 1-0 winners against Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.

And according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, representatives from Spurs were in attendance to watch the 22-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Arsenal are all believed to be keen on the Germany international – scouts from all three clubs also watched Meyer against Hertha Berlin.

Meyer was once considered one of the brightest young talents in German football, but his form has dropped over the last two seasons.

Indeed, he has just one goal this term and failed to provide a single assist.

He has, however, already made 200 appearances for Schalke – a lot for a 22-year-old – and could simply be suffering from the weight of expectation put on his shoulders from a young age.

Tottenham are in need of a creative attacker to provide cover for Christian Eriksen, and Meyer would be a bargain on a free transfer. Keep an eye on this one.
