Tottenham are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon starlet Rafael Leao, according to reports in Italy.
The 18-year-old centre-forward is also said to be attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United.
Indeed, Spurs face plenty of competition for the teenager, and it’s easy to see why – Leao became Sporting’s youngest-ever scorer against rivals FC Porto earlier this month.
The striker has represented Portugal at every youth level up to the Under-21s and is among the most highly-rated young players in Europe.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claims Manchester City are willing to pay €25 million for Leao, but renewed interest from a number of clubs, including Tottenham, could provoke a bidding war.
If that is the case, Spurs aren’t likely to win. Of all the clubs mentioned, Tottenham have the least spending power.
That said, Leao might be tempted by the chance to play under Mauricio Pochettino, who has a fine track record when it comes to nurturing young talent.
Spurs signed Eric Dier from Sporting in 2014, so perhaps lines of communication are still open between the clubs.
