Tottenham are interested in signing Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson, according to the Times.

Mawson joined Swansea after a successful season with Barnsley, earning promotion from League One in the 2015-16.

The 24-year-old has experienced somewhat of a meteoric rise since then, emerging as one of the most promising young centre-backs in the Premier League.

Indeed, Mawson has been called up to the latest England squad by Gareth Southgate and could make his international debut in upcoming friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy.

That will give England’s Spurs contingent – Eric Dier, Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose and Dele Alli – the change to watch Mawson up close and perhaps play in the same team as him.

Even before that happens, the Times believes Tottenham are considering a move for the defender this summer. West Ham are also said to interested.

Spurs will be up against Mawson and Swansea in Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final at the Liberty Stadium.

His performance might determine whether Tottenham take their interest to the next level.
