Hugo Lloris says Tottenham deserve to win a trophy because of the attractive brand of football they play.
Spurs are yet to win any silverware under Mauricio Pochettino. In fact, they haven’t won any competition since the League Cup success of 2008.
But there is a feeling that could change this season. Last weekend’s 3-0 win at Swansea booked Tottenham’s place in an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
The match will take place at Wembley, so in effect Spurs have two “home” matches to win the FA Cup – they will face Chelsea or Southampton if they get past United.
Speaking to The Associated Press, club captain Lloris revealed the style of football Tottenham play deserves a trophy.
“We want a trophy because I think we deserve a trophy,” said the 31-year-old (via the Evening Standard).
“It’s just because we play so attractive football. I think people enjoy the way we play because we are a very positive team with a lot of energy.
“The way we play football is a bit risky but we create a lot of chances.”
“We need to step up a level every time that we can and we still have a good opportunity with the cup.
“We have all the same ambition, just to win something and try to put this club at the highest level in football.
“I think we are going in the right way. We need to win trophies, obviously, but step by step we will arrive. We have no doubt about that.”
Lloris has made over 200 appearances for Spurs in all competitions since arriving from Lyon in 2012.
His future was once a constant source of speculation, but the Frenchman has become part of the furniture at the club and is almost regarded as a member of the coaching staff.
If Tottenham do win the FA Cup, it will be a pleasure to see Lloris rewarded for his patience.
