Ian Wright says he would choose Tottenham over Arsenal and Chelsea if he was a young player starting out in the game today.
Spurs emerged as the current strongest team in London after beating Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now eight points above Chelsea in the battle for Champions League football, and 13 points above sixth-placed Arsenal.
Wright, who scored 185 goals in 288 appearances for the Gunners, admits Tottenham are the best team in the capital.
Appearing on Sky Sports show ‘The Debate’, Wright was asked which London club he would join if he was a trainee today.
“I’d choose Spurs, because of the progression and what they are doing,” he said (via HITC). “I haven’t got a problem saying they are the number one right now.”
The stability of Tottenham arguably makes them a more enticing prospect than Arsenal and Chelsea for a young player.
That said, Spurs’ London rivals have been more successful in terms of silverware in recent years, leading to suggestions Tottenham aren’t actually the strongest team in London.
The future certainly seems bright for Spurs, but that promise must bear fruit for them to reach the next level.
I applaud you for this honesty Ian. You are a person that I always admired although you gave us some stick in the past, but I expect that was your job after all.
