Tottenham are interested in signing Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles this summer, according to the Telegraph.
Former Nottingham Forest trainee Lascelles has made 90 appearances for Newcastle since the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign.
There had been calls for the 24-year-old to be included in Gareth Southgate’s most recent England squad, but the likes of Harry Maguire and James Tarkowski were preferred.
That said, Lascelles has been one of the most impressive centre-backs outside of the top six in the Premier League this season.
Handed the Newcastle captaincy at the age of just 22, Lascelles is renowned for his leadership skills and aerial ability.
Spurs may be in the market for a new centre-back this summer if Toby Alderweireld leaves the club.
The Belgian is in the middle of a contract dispute and Tottenham may be forced to sell him at the end of the season.
He was completely left out of the squad that travelled to Chelsea last weekend despite playing 90 minutes for Belgium just days earlier, leading to suggestions he has fallen out with Mauricio Pochettino.
Spurs have also been linked with Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt as a potential replacement for Alderweireld.
Certainly worth a look because he’s premiership proven which is massive. But I’d take de Ligt from our mates at Ajax. A brute of an 18 year old with the experience of a 25 year old and their youngest ever captain which proves how high they rate him. Foyth will never make it in the premiership, certainly not with Spurs. Yes he’s young and raw, but he thinks he’s better than he is, and has no positioning sense at all. He barely knows where he is on the pitch let alone the opposition. And de Ligt is YOUNGER. Great temperament and a full international. Worth every penny of the Alderweireld money !!!
There’s always a chance Foyth could end up a DM like Dier.
He will only leave the Toon if Rafa leaves, which could happen if the club is not sold this summer by “Spurs fan” Mike Ashley..
However Chelsea are already in for him and a price tag of over £50m would see off any Spurs interest, and resistance from a Rafaless Toon.
Also never underestimate how much Ashley is willing to gamble with the clubs future, and strengthen his beloved Spurs..
We have been linked with so many quality CB’s, at anywhere near £50m we have far better options to choose from.
