Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt has denied reports he is attracting interest from Tottenham.
De Ligt has emerged as one the most promising young players in Europe since making his Eredivisie debut at age of just 16 – he is also a full Netherlands international.
Earlier this week, reports claimed Spurs are preparing a £45 million move for the 18-year-old as a replacement for Toby Alderweireld.
Barcelona and Arsenal have also been linked with De Ligt in the past, but Tottenham have reportedly emerged as the frontrunners for his signature.
However, the player himself had denied hearing anything about a potential move to London.
“I do not know anything about it. And my agent does not know anything about it,” he told FOX Sports.
Any move for De Ligt is likely to depend on whether Alderweireld leaves Spurs this summer.
The Belgian was on the bench again on Monday night as Tottenham beat Watford 2-0 at Wembley.
Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t seem keen to play him unless absolutely neccessary, which suggests his future is in doubt.
I’d like to see Alderweireld stay, but his departure appears to be increasingly likely. De Ligt would be an ideal replacement.
We need experience and Toby should be kept at the club along with Moussa.
Lets give players a pay rise and not get bogged down with talks of more young talent.
Time for Spurs to be winning silverware and, we certainly need the older guys to achieve it.
Toby yes but Dembele no.
Our experienced players havent won anything so it’s not any help to get us over the line.
Looking at the last few performances Dele and Dier have stepped up.
Personally I’d drop Kane and Dembele.
Get pure pace upfront and got it the 3 at the back.
