Tottenham continue to be linked with a summer move for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.
However, fresh reports coming out of the Netherlands suggest a deal won’t be easy for Tottenham to secure.
De Ligt has emerged as one the most promising young players in Europe since making his Eredivisie debut at age of just 16 – he is also a full Netherlands international.
Earlier this week, reports claimed Spurs are preparing a £45 million move for the 18-year-old as a replacement for Toby Alderweireld.
Barcelona and Arsenal have also been linked with De Ligt in the past, but Tottenham have reportedly emerged as the frontrunners for his signature.
However, the player himself has denied hearing anything about a potential move to London.
De Ligt also insisted his agent doesn’t know anything about a possible transfer to Spurs. But the teenager could soon be represented by somebody else.
As a result, Spurs may be forced to look elsewhere for a centre-back. But it isn’t worth ruling out a move for De Ligt just yet – the report could be mere speculation.
