Tottenham continue to be linked with a summer move for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.

However, fresh reports coming out of the Netherlands suggest a deal won’t be easy for Tottenham to secure.

De Ligt has emerged as one the most promising young players in Europe since making his Eredivisie debut at age of just 16 – he is also a full Netherlands international.

Earlier this week, reports claimed Spurs are preparing a £45 million move for the 18-year-old as a replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

Barcelona and Arsenal have also been linked with De Ligt in the past, but Tottenham have reportedly emerged as the frontrunners for his signature.

However, the player himself has denied hearing anything about a potential move to London.

De Ligt also insisted his agent doesn’t know anything about a possible transfer to Spurs. But the teenager could soon be represented by somebody else.

That somebody else, according to Dutch outlet Het Praool (as spotted by HITC), is Mino Raiola, who apparently is not keen to deal with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

As a result, Spurs may be forced to look elsewhere for a centre-back. But it isn’t worth ruling out a move for De Ligt just yet – the report could be mere speculation.

    • I agree Stephen. He is one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
To me it’s clearly a case of favouritism because Toby had words with Pochettino about tactics. Hence, anyone who disagrees with him is finished., because Pochettino is always right.
Well, most fans are now seeing that Pochettino is not at clever when it comes to tactics. Last year against Chelsea playianag Son at left back. Did not shut up shop against Juventus at half time when we knew they needed Two goals.
Last week against Man Utd out thought by Mourinho.
Now, this weekend against WBA we need good strong Tall defenders for WBA are very good at set pieces. So, if he fails to play Alderweireld,Sanchez and Vertonghen at the back WBA will score from
headers. Don’t forget Loris is not the best at balls in the air.
I would just like to Pochettino play a back three this weekend against WBA.

  1. Pay Toby!!! Get rid of Davies. Heck Rose is better than Davies.. Stubborn gaffers make the club suffer. He keeps up the front that be plays best 11.. Toby is his best back period!!Stats prove it
