Tottenham and Chelsea are both interested in signing Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore, according to reports in the north east.
Traore, a former Barcelona academy graduate, joined Middlesbrough from Aston Villa in 2016.
The 22-year-old was part of the Middlesbrough side that lost to his former club Villa in Tuesday’s Championship play-off semi-final.
Having impressed in the second tier this season, Traore is beginning to be linked with a return to the top-flight.
And according to the Northern Echo, Spurs and Chelsea are both interested in signing him.
The report claims Middlesbrough value Traore at over £30 million, and there is a suggestion the winger has played his final game for his current club.
It’s difficult to see two of the top six pursuing a player who struggled to make an impact in the Premier League for Villa or Middlesbrough.
However, it’s worth remembering that he is still young – perhaps Tottenham and Chelsea see potential in him.
Mauricio Pochettino has certainly worked wonders with young players in the past, and Spurs could tempt Traore to join them over Chelsea with Champions League football.
With Lucas Moura sure to play a bigger part next term, I don’t think Tottenham will move for Traore even if their interest is genuine.
