Tottenham and Manchester United could be willing to do business over deals that would see Anthony Martial and Toby Alderweireld swap clubs, according to the Telegraph.
Alderweireld is expected to leave Spurs this summer after failing to agree terms on a new contract earlier this year.
Martial has been in and out of the United line-up under Jose Mourinho and there have been rumours about a potential exit from Old Trafford for some time.
Chelsea are interested in Martial, but the Telegraph believes United’s interest in Alderweireld could see Tottenham beat their London rivals to the Frenchman’s signature.
The report claims there is unlikely to be a straight-swap deal between Martial and Alderweireld, but United and Spurs could be willing to do business if the outcome is beneficial to both parties.
Both players are apparently valued at around £45 million, so a swap deal is possible in theory – but knowing Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, he will try to get a better deal financially.
Chelsea will remain a problem for Spurs as they are likely to provide Martial with a bigger salary, although Tottenham can offer Champions League football.
If Levy tries “to get a better deal financially” he is undoubtedly an idiot who has fluked his way to financial success, like many. Doesn’t he know he will be getting a top player 7-8 years younger than Alderweireld and will also save immeasurably on salary demands if he does a straight swap? Martial is arguably, too, easily the more valuable player on the transfer market.
