Tottenham are close to agreeing a deal to sign Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig, according to the Mail.

The 18-year-old, who is yet to make a senior appearance for Barcelona, has turned down a new contract at Camp Nou and is said to be keen to work under Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs.

Puig made his debut for Barcelona B in February and has attracted interest from across Europe since impressing in the UEFA Youth League final against Chelsea.

With Mousa Dembele set to leave Tottenham this summer, Pochettino will be in need of a new central midfielder.

Spurs have previously been linked with another Barcelona midfielder, Andre Gomes, as well as Atalanta’s Bryan Cristante.

Puig appears to be an option, but it’s likely Pochettino will be seeking somebody with a bit more experience to fill Dembele’s shoes.

Tottenham are also said to be chasing Ryan Sessegnon and Anthony Martial, while Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose are expected to depart.

It will be interesting to see if other outlets pick up on the Puig story – the Mail’s report seems to be the the only one so far.

  1. The Mail’s report is the only one simply because like all the other reports on players to this club or that club, it’s bullshit as usual.
