Mauricio Pochettino has signed a new five-year contract with Tottenham that will keep him at club until 2023.
According to the Telegraph, Pochettino’s new deal is worth £8.5 million per year, making him the third highest paid manager in the Premier League behind Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.
If that’s not an indication of the faith chairman Daniel Levy has in Pochettino, I don’t know what is.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Argentinian in recent weeks as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte, who is yet to leave the Blues.
But the news rids any doubts about Pochettino’s commitment to the Spurs project.
Talks are believed to have taken place between Pochettino and Levy about the club’s ambitions for the summer.
Tottenham journalist Dan Kilpatrick claims those discussions went well and Pochettino has been promised significant funds to to spend during the transfer window.
#thfc BREAKING: Poch & his staff have signed new 5-year deals until 2023. He has received assurances from Levy that there will be significant funds to spend this summer to take the club to the next level. A host of key players set to follow.

Spurs fans mostly expressed delight on social media, while others urged the club to now tie down some of the team’s key players.
Here are the best of the reactions from Twitter.
Poch signs. Last season was tough and he made some errors but guided us to a good overall season. A sign that talks went well? Now to see how far he’s backed in terms of his targets…

Pochettino signs new 5 year deal, the best bit of business Spurs have ever done! This can only mean Levy has told the gaffer what he wants to hear and what’s available for him to do what he wants, which is to win and succeed. Times are about to get much better at Tottenham!

Kane, Alli, Eriksen, Vertonghen and Sonny next please. Get them all tied up to new long-term contracts and bring in Pochettino’s first choice summer signings. No more second choices. No more messing about. No more excuses. #COYS

Given what Pochettino said at the end of the season about ambition, we must surely put two and two together now and assume that this is going to be a very interesting summer for Spurs, no? #THFC #Spurs #pochettino

So massive for @SpursOfficial to have another 5 years of Pochettino & Co in whatever new projects and journeys they want to take us on. The best thing that has happened to our club in a very very long time #COYS

We can only infer from Poch’s new commitment that Levy has promised to support him with the funds he wants. This could be massive. Getting that tingly feeling! COYS!
Excellent news.
