Mauricio Pochettino has signed a new five-year contract with Tottenham that will keep him at club until 2023.

According to the Telegraph, Pochettino’s new deal is worth £8.5 million per year, making him the third highest paid manager in the Premier League behind Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.

If that’s not an indication of the faith chairman Daniel Levy has in Pochettino, I don’t know what is.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Argentinian in recent weeks as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte, who is yet to leave the Blues.

But the news rids any doubts about Pochettino’s commitment to the Spurs project.

Talks are believed to have taken place between Pochettino and Levy about the club’s ambitions for the summer.

Tottenham journalist Dan Kilpatrick claims those discussions went well and Pochettino has been promised significant funds to to spend during the transfer window.

Spurs fans mostly expressed delight on social media, while others urged the club to now tie down some of the team’s key players.

Here are the best of the reactions from Twitter.

  1. We can only infer from Poch’s new commitment that Levy has promised to support him with the funds he wants. This could be massive. Getting that tingly feeling! COYS!
