Tottenham are confident Christian Eriksen will sign a new contract with the club, according to ESPN.

That’s despite reports in Spain linking Eriksen with a possible summer move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Spanish outlet Sport claims Barcelona are keen to move for Eriksen if they are unable to lure their number one target, Antoine Griezmann, from Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid have also been linked in recent months, but ESPN believes Spurs are confident about agreeing terms with Eriksen on a new contract.

The Dane, who has two years remaining on his current deal, enjoyed a stellar year for Tottenham as Mauricio Pochettino’s side finished third in the Premier League.

Pochettino was handed a new five-year contract at the end of the season, and a number of first-team players are expected to follow suit.

Previous reports had suggested Eriksen will earn in excess of £100,000-a-week if he commits his future to Spurs.

If there is genuine interest from the La Liga giants, I wouldn’t blame Eriksen for being tempted – but Tottenham must ensure he stays this summer.

  1. The Spanish football reporters really are a laughingstock especially where Real Madrid and Barcelona are concerned. Those clowns make the low class muppets in our press here in the UK look like Pulitzer Prize winners.
